How do I troubleshoot block issues?

This article will go over the most common issues and questions about SAM Blocks so you can troubleshoot in your classroom.

My blocks don't turn green when fully charged

The charging light in SAM Blocks will only turn green when the battery reaches 100% charge. Over time and with normal use, the batteries will slowly wear out and not be able to hold as much charge as they used to. After a while your blocks might only be able to reach 90% charge, so they will stop turning green on the charger.

It generally takes about 4 hours for SAM Blocks to be fully charged. As long as your blocks are still holding charge for the duration of your typical usage this is nothing to worry about.

My blocks won't turn off

If you blocks are staying lit up and won't turn off, there are two things you can try:

  1. Reset the block by holding down the power button for about 10 seconds. If successful, the block should flash white.
  2. If that doesn't work, leave the block off the charger let the battery die. Then, recharge the block and it should work as normal.

My blocks won't turn on

If your block won't turn on, try the following:

  1. Charge your block; the blocks do not come charged, you will need to charge them before use. It typically takes about 4 hours for the blocks to be fully charged.
  2. Try resetting the block by holding down the power button for 10 seconds until the block flashes white.

This is an indication of a malfunction with your blocks. If your blocks are still under warranty you can submit for a replacement. Contact support@samlabs.com for further assistance.

My DC Motor has loose screws

Older models of the DC motor have only one bracket holding the motor in place with tiny screws that tend to come loose. We've remedied this issue in our newer models by adding a second bracket on the top of the block. If your blocks are still under warranty you can submit for a replacement. If you're noticing this issue with a large quantity of blocks and aren't sure if your warranty is still active, please reach out to support@samlabs.com and we'll see how we can help.
