You can tell the block is 'yours' based on the signal strength. Once you turn your blocks on and click ‘CONNECT’, your block appears on the screen along with a signal strength. If your block is close to your device, it will have a strong signal (all or most of the bars will be filled).
You can also tell the block is yours after you select the block and 'Pair'. Once the block appears under 'BLOCKS NEAR ME' there will be a color flashing on the screen around the block.
Now look at your physical block. If your physical block is flashing the same color as your virtual block, then click on the green check mark. If the colors do not match, click the red 'X' mark and try again from the first step
